In my free time, I love to paint, especially as gifts for friends and family. My favorite subjects are usually pets. It's my way of creating something meaningful and personal for the people (and animals) I love.
I like to paint different styles. Below are some practices of realistic animals. One of my recents? Oak, my friends dog, shown on the right:
Current work in progress: My dog, Mav.
Grid for scale of the outline, light underpainting to get the lights and darks.
Then heavier underpainting (blue) to set the tone, and begin adding detail plus the yellow/orange background (my favorite color).
